HOW IT IS SCORED
The AFQT is built from Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension, and is reported as a percentile from 1 to 99. Other sections feed branch line scores for specific jobs.
WHAT A GOOD SCORE LOOKS LIKE
Minimum AFQT by branch (high school diploma): Army 31, Navy 31, Marines 32, Air Force 31, Coast Guard 40, Space Force 31. Aim for 50+ to open more jobs and bonuses.

7 AREASArithmetic Reasoning
12 MIN TESTWord problems using basic math. This is an AFQT section, so it moves your enlistment score directly. The math is simple; the trap is misreading what is being asked.
WHAT TO MEMORIZE
- Translate the sentence into an equation before touching numbers.
- Rate work: distance = rate x time; work rate = job / time.
- Percent change = (new - old) / old x 100.
- Check units — hours vs minutes, dollars vs cents.
- Estimate first; eliminate answers that are obviously too big or small.
